The Captains Roundtable Committee of The Lakewood Yacht Club is proud to present a Cruising World/US Sailing Safety At Sea Seminar sponsored by West Marine and featuring Ralph Naranjo technical editor of Cruising World magazine as moderator.

The seminar will be held at the beautiful Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook Texas on Saturday March 22, 2003.  The daylong seminar is open to all skippers, their mates and their crews.  It is highly recommended for cruising and racing sailors, recreational power boaters, commercial fishermen and anyone considering going offshore.  The seminar, designed and conducted by sailors, all experts in their fields, will provide novice and experienced mariners with information and skills required to prepare for sailing offshore, boat and crew preparation, handling heavy weather, recommended safety equipment and emergencies at sea.

The program has been sanctioned by CRUISING WORLD magazine and evolved from the highly successful program by the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.  It will incorporate the latest techniques and information available.

On-the-water demonstrations will include “quick stop” and man overboard recoveries, flare procedures and helicopter evacuation.  Lecture topics include a life-raft demonstration, crew preparation and safety, heavy weather sailing, inspecting, equipping and preparing your boat for offshore, handling medical emergencies and the boat's first aid kit.

Among those making presentations will be Jeremy R. Hood – Blue Water Cruising, Mike Firestone  - Firestone Marine Surveyors, and Drs. Craig Fisher and Mike Duncan.

The program will run from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  Tickets are $75 before March 7 and $85 thereafter. US Sailing members get a $5.00 discount.  The fee covers lectures, demonstrations, course materials and lunch.  Attendees who desire a US Sailing Safety At Sea Seminar certificate (required for the Newport to Bermuda race and other US Sailing sanctioned races), can obtain one by paying an additional $10.00 US Sailing certificate fee.

There is limited seating and advanced registration is strongly recommended.  Order tickets by mail, make checks payable to Lakewood Yacht Club and mail to:     Safety At Sea Seminar
