Singer-songwriter Robert Frith has recently received a great deal of attention regarding his outstanding music and electrifying stage shows. Robert and his full band have long been regarded as the most popular music act in Southeast Texas because of their consistently strong drawing power and wide market appeal. They have headlined several major music events on the Texas Gulf Coast, including the annual Gulf Coast Jam on Pleasure Island in Port Arthur, Texas as well as the Yamaha Music Showcase in Houston, Texas. Robert has also been a favorite performer at the annual Janis Joplin Memorial concerts in Port Arthur (hometown to both Janis and Robert) throughout the last decade. With his addition to the amazon.com library, and a recent audition at the Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Robert is garnering much deserved attention from entertainment heavyweights.
Utilizing a style best described as a mix of equal parts Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Al Green, Robert has been compared by radio personalities and club owners alike to several hot contemporary national acts, including The Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, and Train. Frith is the beneficiary of great timing in that his style of music-which emphasizes songwriting and melodic content rather that gimmicks and technology- is currently enjoying a renaissance across America. The diversity of his original music has earned him airplay on radio stations with four different formats-Pop, Rock, Classic Rock, and Country.
Several music personalities across Texas have been touting Robert as the “next big thing” from the Southeast Texas/Port Arthur area and expect him to eventually enjoy the same market success as fellow Port Arthuran Joplin and current country superstars Tracy Byrd, Clay Walker, and Mark Chessnutt, who all hail from that area. Robert has shared the stage with both Byrd and Walker in several acoustic shows, and has recently performed with The Doobie Brothers, Blessid Union Of Souls, Ian Moore, Storyville, Percy Sledge, Wayne Toups, Kacy Crowley, and Tab Benoit to name a few. His regional fan base is both large in number and almost cult-like in terms of their constantly enthusiastic support of his music; much like fans of The Greatful Dead and the current band Phish, many Robert Frith fans can boast of having seen him in concert literally dozens of times. Recent live performances on the Stevens and Pruett radio show in Houston and at established music strongholds such as The Fabulous Satellite Lounge in Houston and Antone’s in Austin have further solidified his status as a remarkable live performer.
In addition to building an incredibly strong fan base through constant performing in Texas and Louisiana Robert has released two full-length albums whose strong sales have shown that people buy his music, and are hungry for more. His first album, “That Long Black Ribbon,” featured a regional hit single, “No Need,” a guitar-oriented blues-rock song along the lines of Vaughan and Clapton that received substantial radio airplay. Robert's CDs are currently being heard on the radio and jukeboxes in several states including Texas, Louisiana, Florida, New York, Nevada, Kansas and California. Subsequent singles from the album, including the heartfelt Van Morrison tribute “I Want To Feel” and the soulful “Would You Rather,” saw strong airplay as well. Robert’s newest effort, “Pon*Tune,” boast even more outstanding original material, ranging from the hard-driving blues-rock of “Ted Told Fred” and “Filth,” the groove oriented “Forever Now,” the tender ballad “When April Sees Me” and the Beatlesque “No No No,” down to the storytelling character sketch of “Saving Grace” and the starkly arranged acoustic number, “That Don’t Sit With Me." Robert Frith has been called "a throwback to the good old days" when the music was real and so were the people who made it.
