Gene Mitchell
was born in the coastal town of Brunswick, Georgia and began his musical
career performing with various bands in south Georgia and north Florida.
As he developed his songwriting skills, he transitioned into a solo acoustic
guitarist/vocalist, performing his original songs along with cover songs
by the great singer/songwriters such as Jim Croce, Dan Fogelberg, Gordon
Lightfoot, Harry Chapin and James Taylor. While serving in the U.S.
Navy, he traveled to more than 30 countries, including the south Pacific,
Caribbean, Europe and Asia, performing his music and winning fans worldwide.
Gene is also a highly decorated veteran, including the Meritorious Service
Medal from the President of the United States, two Navy Commendation Medals
and four Navy Achievement Medals. Gene is also the recipient of a
national civilian award from America’s Promise for exceptional volunteer
service to children.
Gene
now lives in Panama City Beach, Florida and writes and produces his own
music under the independent label “Sailor Boy Records”. His CDs include
such notable musicians as John Raymond (guitarist for Kenny G), Amy Lee
(saxophonist for Jimmy Buffett) and Rick Cathaway (15 years guitarist for
the Osmond Brothers). “Gene’s music is sing-a-long and his lyrics
thought provoking, a winning combination!” - Norman Saleet, songwriter
for the #1 Billboard hit by Air Supply, “Here I Am” and Selena’s “Where
Did The Feeling Go.” Gene presents two live performances:
(1) Solo guitar and vocal and (2) Guitar and vocal with instrumental back
up music for a full sound.
Gene’s
music is a mixture of calypso, jazz, reggae, soul, pop, and country, however
years living in Florida, the Caribbean and Hawaii strongly influence his
overall island style. Upbeat party songs and romantic ballads with
nautical themes are predominant in his music. Gene has four
CDs of original music available:

(2001).
