Our Family and Victoria wish to extend our thanks  to Victoria's  WILDFIRE SOCCER CLUB   for the August 20th  donation of all game proceeds, in their entirety, to a special account  toward the medical care and well being of Victoria. The game was between the WILDFIRE ALLSTARS vs. CHALLENGE ALLSTARS.  The game was  held at Friendswood High School  Friendswood, TX.  Donations for Victoria can be made to her account at Texas First Bank, P.O. UPDATE ( translation by Pediatrician friend Dr. Winnette) They did  a spinal tap and culture because she was running a fever and had the CSF leak (cerebrospinal fluid drip from her nose). They said  "it looks clear",....i.e., it  "looks like water" which is what it's supposed to look like. The Laboratory, however, COUNTS the cells, analyzes  what kinds of cells, plates it on different kinds of media (agar) plates for different kinds of bacteria, fungi, mycobacterium, and sometimes, viruses. They do a Latex Agglutination test on it (a quick check for some 
kinds of bacteria), and also check the protein and glucose content, which also gives them certain kinds of information, based on whether they are both high, both low, one high  one low, etc.

Thankfully, tests came back negative. Victoria  will have to watch for Infection in her CS fluid  for the rest of her life due to the CSF leak.

To family and friends, Victoria looked pretty bad. Her Neurosurgeon  Dr. Warder says, in fact "she looks good". Head bandaged face swelled 4X it's size and 2 eyes swollen shut. (trusting Doc was hard)

Dr Winnette says she was in the right place for this kind of injury/surgery/recovery. UTMB Children's Hospital in Galveston gets sick children sent to them literally from all over the world.... The Texas Medical Center in Houston has great PR folks, but UTMB just quietly goes about taking care of seriously ill, injured and burned children. 

The Shriners Burns Institute was across the street from us connected by a walk way. Dr. Winnette says it's pretty phenomenal what they do. The same surgeons that took care of Victoria, are some of the same ones that work at SBI.

The Family and Victoria wish to especially thank the UTMB Doctors and staff who recognized the seriousness of Victoria's injury and Hugs particularly to Dr Warder who  "fixed her up".

Our prayers HAVE been answered. Her smile, sense of humor and rapid progress are proof of that. We continue to ask for prayers for her long and painful recovery.
